Overweight With Other Conditions
Nature Coast Clinical Research – Crystal River is conducting a research study that will evaluate the effect of an investigational weight loss drug on cardiovascular safety in people who are overweight or obese.
Obesity is widespread, difficult to manage, and can be unhealthy. It can increase cardiovascular risks, including chances of stroke, heart attack, and high blood pressure. Multiple signals in the body may change with obesity, making weight loss difficult. Medications that target these signaling pathways are needed to help fight this increasing epidemic, and clinical trials are needed to investigate potential solutions.
You may be eligible to participate if you:
- Are 18+ years old
- Have a BMI >27 with any of the following (A and/or B)
- A. Have Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), including any of the following:
-
- Heart failure
- Coronary artery disease (CAD)
- Previous heart attack
- Previous stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic)
- Previous revascularization procedure
- Stent(s)
- Peripheral artery disease
-
- B. Have a BMI >30 with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
- A. Have Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), including any of the following:
There are additional criteria to meet to qualify for this study. Volunteers who qualify for our study will receive study-related medication, medical exams at no cost. Compensation for time and travel may be available. No health insurance is required to participate.

You may be eligible if you:
- Are 18 or older
- Are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
- Have a BMI of 25 or greater
- Are taking daily metformin ≥1500 mg or maximally tolerated dose

Type 2 Diabetes and Increased Risk for Heart Disease or Stroke
Type 2 diabetes is frequently associated with coexisting conditions such as increased weight, hypertension, and increased blood lipoprotein (fat/cholesterol) concentrations. People with type 2 diabetes have a higher risk for cardiovascular disease. Global studies show approximately a third of individuals with type 2 diabetes have cardiovascular disease.
We are conducting a research study that will be comparing a new investigational medication with insulin therapy for people with type 2 diabetes and excess weight who are at risk for heart disease or stroke.
You may be eligible if you:
- Are at least 18 years of age
- Have a BMI of 25 or higher
- Have type 2 diabetes with an HbA1c between 7 and 10.5
- Are taking at least one oral medication for diabetes
- Have or are at risk for heart disease, stroke, or other blood vessel diseases, or have kidney disease
There are additional criteria to meet to qualify for this study. Volunteers who qualify for our study will receive study-related medication and medical exams at no cost, along with a stipend for time and travel. No health insurance is required to participate.
