Celiac Disease

Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is a genetic autoimmune disease that affects the digestive system. It is triggered when a person consumes gluten, which is a protein found in rye, wheat, and barley. When a person with celiac disease eats gluten, their immune system reacts to the protein by attacking the small intestine. Despite attempts to maintain a gluten-free diet, many individuals with celiac disease continue to have symptoms and/or intestinal damage due to gluten exposure. Clinical research is necessary to develop potential new therapies.
