Fleming Island – Chronic Cough Research Study

Do you have a cough that just won’t go away?

Fleming Island Center for Clinical Research is conducting a new observational research study to better understand chronic cough and how it affects daily life. Researchers are studying how often people cough and how chronic cough impacts sleep, work, and overall well-being.

Participants will wear a small cough monitoring device for about 4 weeks to help measure cough frequency and patterns.

Your participation could help researchers learn more about chronic cough and support the development of better treatments in the future.

No study medication is involved.

About This Study

A cough that lasts more than 8 weeks is considered chronic. For some people, the cause of the cough may remain unclear or continue even after trying multiple treatments.

This study focuses on people who may have:

  • Refractory Chronic Cough (RCC) – a cough that continues despite treatment
  • Unexplained Chronic Cough (UCC) – a cough where the cause cannot be identified

Researchers will collect information about cough frequency and its impact on quality of life.

Who May Qualify

You may be able to participate if you:

  • Are 21 years of age or older
  • Have had a persistent cough lasting longer than 8 weeks
  • Have already seen healthcare providers about your cough
  • Have tried treatments or tests to determine the cause of your cough
  • Are willing to wear a cough monitoring device for 4 weeks
  • Are able to use a smartphone with the monitoring device

Participants are typically individuals who have been evaluated by specialists such as:

  • Pulmonologists (lung specialists)
