Sjögren’s Syndrome
Sjögren’s syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disorder that primarily affects the salivary and tear glands, leading to symptoms of dry eyes and dry mouth. In Sjögren’s syndrome, the immune system attacks the moisture-producing glands, causing inflammation and damage. Other organs such as the lungs, liver, and kidneys may also be affected. Symptoms may include dryness of the eyes, mouth, throat, and skin, as well as joint pain, fatigue, and swelling. There is no cure for Sjögren’s syndrome, but treatment can help manage symptoms and prevent complications.
